I believe you deserve a consultant you can count on, who shows up with a commitment to your individual growth, unique goals, and ongoing professional development.

When you’re really looking to grow as an EMDR therapist, I know how hard it can be to find a consultant who’s the right fit for you.

  • You might feel like you have no idea what you’re doing. You did the training, but it left you feeling overwhelmed and unsure of yourself. This is normal. There’s so much information to take in during the Basic Training, and it’s hard to know how to implement it without ongoing support after the training ends. Together we can build your sense of confidence and competence as an EMDR therapist starting to work with clients.

  • You have a track record of competence and success with clients, but now you’re feeling unsure of how to follow the protocol and still feel like the therapist you’ve always been. EMDR Basic Training can leave you feeling like you’re trying to contort yourself into an overly rigid structure and it’s just not a fit. But here’s the truth - your existing clinical skills are actually your EMDR superpower, and together we’ll work to integrate them and make the standard protocol your own.

  • You’re comfortable doing EMDR and have experience under your belt, but you need consultation to get to the next step. Maybe it’s to manage the burnout and isolation that can come from processing trauma with clients on your own. Or it could be that you’re ready to pursue EMDRIA Certification and need consultation hours to complete it. If this is you, then we’ll truly partner together to exchange ideas and talk through cases in a deeper way that matches your level of experience.

Meet Your Consultant

Hi, I’m Celia.

I’ve been a therapist for 25 years, and a private practice owner since 2005. My training and approach to therapy integrates many modalities, including psychodynamic psychotherapy, CBT, DBT, IFS, Interpersonal Neurobiology, and EMDR. I have a wide range of experience with diverse groups of client populations and varying ages throughout the lifespan that allows me to conceptualize cases from many different angles. Having owned a cash-pay private practice for 20 years, I also understand and can provide support around the complexity of running a business alongside providing therapy.

In my practice today, I specialize in using EMDR to treat:

  • Anxiety, panic, and phobias

  • Relationship issues, including codependency and attachment trauma

  • Trauma & CPTSD

When I decided to pursue EMDRIA Certification myself, I was already an experienced therapist and EMDR practitioner.

However, the journey to find a consultant was surprisingly difficult. I contacted almost twenty Consultants and heard back from just two. Of those two, one had a very structured framework that required a large commitment of time and money that all felt like too much, and the other had a very loose process that I wasn’t confident could help me reach my goals for growth.

I needed something in between. Someone structured enough to commit to a process of encouraging my development, but also flexible enough to individualize our meetings to my experience level, client population, and goals for the future.

This is the balance I aim to offer you in consultation - enough structure to feel confident that we’re progressing towards your goals, enough flexibility to tailor the process to where you’re currently at in your work with clients.

Whether you’re a just-beginning therapist and EMDR practitioner, you’re an experienced therapist but new to EMDR, or you’ve been doing EMDR for a while and are ready to deepen your skills, together we’ll work towards:

  • Building competence & confidence in using the EMDR standard protocol

  • Defining your individual style and approach within the EMDR protocol

  • Expanding knowledge and use of other protocols when useful

  • Integrating other therapeutic modalities that can enhance EMDR in complex cases

  • Growing an EMDR practice

Our focus areas in Consultation will include:

Case conceptualization

Organizing client history, symptoms, strengths, and presenting problems into a cohesive framework that serves as a roadmap for an EMDR plan

EMDR Standard Protocol

Understanding the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model, structural dissociation theory, 3 prongs, 8 phases, and interweaves

Target sequence planning

Thinking through how to identify and prioritize the specific memories, experiences, or issues to address with EMDR, and in what order

Complex Cases

Problem solving how to adapt the standard protocol, or use different protocols, to address complex trauma or stuck processing

Resourcing & preparation

Laying a strong foundation for EMDR by equipping clients with the emotional tools and stability needed to safely process traumatic memories

Integrating Your Style

Integrating your experience with other modalities when they’re significant to your work, like IFS, psychodynamic therapy, CBT, or Christian counseling

Frequently asked questions

  • The first step is to reach out through the contact form above so that we can set up a 20 minute phone or Zoom call. During that call, I’ll ask for a little information about where you’re at in your practice with clients and what your goals are for consultation.

For individual consultation, we’ll meet for 55 minutes at a time for you to discuss your cases and questions. The structure we agree on will be highly individualized to you, where you’re at in your practice with clients,  and your professional development needs. We can meet at a frequency that works best for you.

For  group Consultation, we have the option to meet for 60 minutes (max 4 participants), 75 minutes (max 5 participants), or 90 minutes (max 6 participants). Each group meeting will leave time for case presentation, questions, and discussion among the group. Group consultation is more structured than individual consultation to ensure that all members are able to participate and receive feedback.

For both individual and group consultation, I’ll track your hours and provide the required consultant letter for your EMDRIA Certification application once hours are completed and goals are met.

  • In both individual and group consultation, I ask that you bring prepared cases and/or questions to make the most of our time together. If you are working towards EMDRIA Certification, I also ask that you bring a transcript from a session along with your case presentation so that we can review examples of your work in-depth together. You can submit video recordings for review, although I do not require this.

  • My style is conversational and relational, coupled with professionalism and consistency.

I believe that the consultation relationship parallels the therapy relationship. Although consultation is not therapy, it is just as important in this process for us to develop a comfortable working relationship and rapport, to have goals we’re working towards and a path to get there, and to be able to talk about how you show up in sessions and any transference/countertransference issues that arise.

I am committed to consistency in our work together - from showing up on time, to being prepared, to keeping notes so that I remember your clients and where you’re at in the process with each one. I truly want to help you grow, deepen your clinical skills, and meet your goals in the work you do with clients.

  • My personal approach is very client centered, collaborative, relational, and analytical - I conceptualize cases by critically thinking through the impact of both history and present functioning, and then rely heavily on partnering in a positive relationship with clients to work towards healing at a deep level. I believe that learning to individualize the standard protocol and attune to following the client vs just following the script is critical to using EMDR effectively.

  • This will depend on how often you want to meet. You’ll need 20 total hours of consultation - 10 group and 10 individual - to apply for Certification. I am happy to schedule our consultation meetings at a frequency that works for you. Once your consultation hours are completed and the goals we’ve agreed upon for consultation are met, I will write the required consultant letter for you to submit with your application for EMDRIA Certification.

  • Fees for Consultation are:

    • Individual $185/55 minutes

    • Group $60/hour for each participant (minimum of 3 participants)
